Birmingham

It has always been considered the second city of England - as to dimensions and importance. Birmingham is the 4th visited city in the UK today with more than 1 million of population lots of memories and huge potential.

The city of the 'Brummies" as its citizens are called, the home of Aston Villa and the birthplace of the fabulous death metal band Black Sabbath was founded in the 6th century as a small farming village. In the Middle Ages it was the second most important city in England after the capital London. It is the center and capital city of the Midland County and is flanked by the Lickey Hills, Clent Hills and Walton Hill to the South, right on the Birmingham plateau. Its location and historic importance were a propitious factor for the huge upheaval in the age of the British industrial revolution. It was the strongest and fastest developing industrial center and thus won the nickname of "the workshop of the world". Despite of its industrial background, today 78% of the city’s economy is service-oriented. Two of the 4 biggest banks in Britain were founded here - Lloyds Bank and Midlands Bank.

The accelerated growth of the city in the past preconditioned the ethnic and religious diversity of the population. It is witnessed by the various religious buildings in town - from Roman Catholic to mosques. Among its other sites of interest there are the Birmingham museum and art gallery, the Sarehole Mill – exclusive attraction for the fans of the writer J.R.R. Tolkien, Cadbury World – the museum of chocolate and chocolate production. The progressing city did not manage its English taste to verdant nature and has amazing parks, the biggest among which is Sutton Park.
