Istanbul
Istanbul is an amazing and cosmopolitan city. The thing about Istanbul is that it can offer a bit of everything in a unique manner. There is no other city that has been a capital to two consecutive empires – the Christian and the Islamic. Istanbul still possesses intermingled traces and features of both. During the times of the Byzantine Empire, it was known under the name of Byzantium. Then, it was an important trading and cultural centre of the eastern Roman Empire. When its emperor Constantine decided it would be his capital, he named it Constantinople. Later it was seized by the Ottomans and was called Istanbul. The city is divided into two parts by the Bosphorus running between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, which is the border between Europe and Asia. Thus, it is the only city in the world that lies on two continents.
There are a staggering number of attractions to be seen in Istanbul, the main landmarks being the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya Cathedral and the Topkapi Palace. These are the most popular and exquisite icons and visitors are constantly crowding in to behold them.
