Geneva

Geneva is Switzerland's most cosmopolitan and sophisticated city for many years now and probably for many more to come. Located on the southwestern part of Lac Léman - Switzerland's biggest lake, and on both sides of the Rhône, Geneva is the departure place for the lake steamers. The arrival by water is the only way that can fully convey exactly how well positioned is the city, with hills on the foreground rising against a background of beautiful mountains.

The river divides the city to a north bank known as the Rive Droite and a south bank known as the Rive Gauche. The centre of the city is situated on both banks, and the central railway station located on the north bank of the river, as well as are the suburbs of the city and the Old Town is situated on the south river bank. The city has been established during the Neolithic times and throughout the years it has undergone many changes. It has been the place of living for many exiles from religious or political harassments and persecution. The production of the first watch was done by such an exile who found his home in Geneva.

This great mixture of different nationalities, along with the fact that the bigger part of the émigrés were made by intellectual people, led to the foundation of unequal and different centres of education and learning. As a result of the creation of such centers the city rapidly developed a reputation that turned it into a popular and preferable choice for all the children of the well-to-do families who wanted to broaden andfinish their learning.

Switzerland’s famous neutrality played a big role in the cheering of different international groups and organisations as to situate their head offices in the city of Geneva, which today has the pleasure to have over 200, enlarging in number foreign communities which make almost one-third of the Geneva's population.

Geneva is also a big banking centre and has an important place in the production of watches, scientific equipments, jewellery and food goods.

All these important roles have greatly contributed to the fact that Geneva is one luxurious city where you can live or stay. Also Geneva has a lot to offer its visitors, mainly the Old Town and some wonderful museums. Geneva is a very productive and clean city. Its has a perfect system for public transportation, along with the ease and advantage of walking around the beautiful streets and centre and enjoying them to the fullest not having to own a car.

The city has the luck to have a mild climate with comparatively low level of rainfall. Geneva offers attractions and entertainments that will leave wonderful memories in all of its visitors.
