Cordoba

Cordoba is an important Spanish city that was established by the Romans and thanks to its tactical meaning as the highest traversable point of the great Guadalquivir River, the city has turned into a port city of big importance, and it was used for the shipping of the famous Spanish olive oil, wine and other products to the Ancient Rome. When Cordoba was regained by the Christians, the new authorities of the city were so astonished by its glory and beauty that they kept it from being destroyed and they decided to build a cathedral in the center of its territory.

The city is the charming host of a population consisted of a million of people. Cordoba is located on the edge of a mountain range which is called Sierra Chica. Due to the fact that it is situated so closely to the mountains, this beautiful city is the ideal place for excursions and walks into the natural glory of the Andes Mountains.

Cordoba was and still is a big cultural, learning and art center. Despite the fact that the city was at some point behind the country’s capital, according to the national meaning, Cordoba has not lost its independent and free spirit and its unique grace.

The city's receives its most important landmark from the so called Primero, also known as the Suquia River. The center of the city is the Plaza San Martin, which had received its name in memory of the country's great rescuer. On the south of this plaza is located an avenue that is easy to be walked and that is overflowing with some of Cordoba's most memorable grand colonial buildings one of which is the glorious Church Compania de Jesus.

Cordoba has managed to keep the magnificence and glory, which it had in the past, even at the present days. It still has the ability to thrill its visitors to the fullest.

Although it is not a widely known fact, but still a fact, Cordoba was, during the medieval ages, one of the most significant centers in Europe. It was inhabited by people from completely different and various cultures and religions - from Jews, to Muslims and Christians. All of those people were living quietly and in harmony with each other. As a result of this great mixture of people and cultures Cordoba was the birth place of many of the most important and world - famous philosophers, scientists and artists.

Cordoba's great cultural background gives the opportunity to its visitors to enjoy many magnificent and glorious monuments, such as the world-wide known Mezquita, the mosque of the Moors and many more interesting museums.

Besides its great history Cordoba is a very vivid city, offering many attractions and amusements in the best Andalusian manner, it is a city of the Flamenco and the bullfighting, and undoubtedly one of the most attractive places to be visited in the southern region of Spain.
