Frankfurt

Frankfurt, one of Germany's largest cities, has become the country's financial and transportation centre. It hosts such important institutions such as the European Central Bank, the German Federal Bank, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the Frankfurt trade fair and many others.

But there is more to see to Frankfurt besides business and financial. Some of the main sights include such places as Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral, the Roemer city hall, Saint Paul's Church, Saint Katherine's Church, the Old Opera House, the Frankfurt Opera House and Zeil, Frankfurt's main shopping street.

Frankfort boasts many museums, many of them located in an area now known as Museumsufer or Museums Riverbank. Some of the more formidable museums are Ikonenmuseum, Museum fur Angewandle Kunst, Museum der Weltkulturen, Deutsches Filmmuseum, Deutsche Architekturmuseum.

Frankfurt also hosts many festivals throughout the year, the main one being Museumsuferfest. Others include Dippemess, Waldchestag, Wolkenkratzer Festival and the Sound of Frankfurt. The city is also famous for dance music, considering the modern Techno music styles has its roots in Germany, more particular, Frankfurt.

In addition, the city also hosts several structures that reflect the successful realization of 20th century architecture. The buildings that are worth a glance include Frauenfriedenskirche, Grossmarkthalle, Goethe House and the Musuem fur angewandte Kunst. The Frankfurt skyline is dotted by a significant amount of skyscrapers including the tallest tower in Europe called Commerzbank Tower, standing at 259 metres tall. To get a better view of the city, some of the main river bridges offer magnificent panoramic views.

More tranquil areas of the city are the Old Town and the City Forest, regarded as one of the largest inner-city forests in the country. Frankfurt has been called the "city of contrasts" because it is beaming with bankers on the one hand and students on the other due to its many universities.
